Allergy to ginger

Such a root vegetable as ginger is a very useful product for the human body. It is customary to add it to almost all dishes and drinks. Ginger tea is very popular, which adds strength and increases the body's defense reactions. Ginger root is actively used in traditional medicine recipes. Despite all the useful properties of this product, some people suffer from allergies to it. And to be more specific, allergic reactions occur to oils and ginger vapors.

Causes of ginger allergy

Allergy to ginger is a rather problematic disease. To date, no specific reasons for its development have been identified. It is known that only 15% of the population of our planet suffers from this disease. Experts only assume that the disease is provoked by the presence of allergies to other foods. In this case, it is necessary to undergo a full examination, and establish or refute this fact.

The main reason is considered to be individual intolerance to ginger. Children often suffer from allergies, as a weak body and an undeveloped immune system are most susceptible to external and internal stimuli. It has been established that ginger allergy may be the result of a cross-reaction. Very often, medications, cosmetics, which include ginger extract or essential oil, can also give a reaction.

Allergy symptoms

Symptoms of an allergy to ginger can appear both immediately (within the first hour) and after some time (up to a day). In most cases, this allergy manifests itself in a delayed type. And if a person already has some type of allergy, he should consume ginger with extreme caution, control all symptoms and reactions from the body.

Among the first signs, in the first place, swelling of the mucous membranes is manifested. The following symptoms are sure to show up:

  • Lachrymation of the eyes;
  • swelling of the oral cavity;
  • Rhinitis;
  • Attacks of suffocation and dry cough;
  • Rash on the skin in the form of urticaria;
  • Dermatitis;
  • Vomiting and diarrhea;
  • Quincke's edema;
  • Anaphylactic shock.

Quincke's edema, which can occur in the oral cavity, is very dangerous. With an increase in the tongue, throat, palate, larynx, the supply of oxygen to the lungs stops and asphyxia may occur. And it is very important to react to them at the first manifestations, to consult a doctor for help. Symptoms can manifest themselves both in a complex and in a single variant. Very often, only vomiting or diarrhea occurs, so people confuse allergies with food poisoning. Difficulties in breathing, the appearance of anxiety, and insomnia are often observed.

Who is contraindicated for ginger?

Like any other product, ginger has its contraindications. So, in order to avoid allergies and other possible complications, the product is contraindicated in the following problems:

  • Peptic ulcer of the digestive system;
  • Liver failure;
  • Cholecystitis;
  • With poor blood clotting.

Ginger increases acidity, which negatively affects the work and condition of the stomach. Also, the product promotes the secretory activity of liver cells, which weakens its function. Ginger also thins the blood, which often leads to bleeding.

Treatment for ginger allergy

Allergy to ginger involves treatment with various antihistamines. This group of drugs prevents the production and release of histamine in the cells of the body. Relieves allergy symptoms in a short period of time. To date, there are three generations of antihistamines. The first of them has a fairly large number of possible adverse reactions, including a sedative effect. The latest generation boasts a minimum number of contraindications and negative consequences after their use. When choosing, it is necessary to take into account the presence of concomitant diseases, various other factors (pregnancy, lactation) and age. It is worth noting the following means:

  • First generation: Suprastin, Dimedrol, Diazolin, Fenkarol.
