Urticaria on the face

Our world is developing at a frantic pace, so a modern person cannot stop, but only move forward. And there is no place for any diseases. But what to do when you are caught by such a nuisance as hives on your face? After all, you can’t hide it under clothes or makeup. We have to stay at home, cancel all meetings and walks, postpone the trip to rest. With the successful establishment of the cause of its occurrence, it is possible to quickly and effectively recover from it.

How does hives on the face manifest itself?

The face is a favorite place for such an allergic manifestation as urticaria . It often affects the forehead and cheeks in both adults and children. And it looks like this:

  • Small pimples;
  • blisters;
  • Weakness;
  • Severe swelling;
  • Quincke's edema on the face;
  • Headache.

A small rash on the skin has a pink color. If you do not start therapy on time, the spots increase in size and turn red. The formation of blisters begins, which reach 12-13 centimeters. Merging together, they form a large swelling on the face. Itching and burning may begin, but this is rare. Quincke's edema is very dangerous. It appears quite quickly and unexpectedly. It develops very rapidly, which is why literally in 10-15 minutes a person becomes unrecognizable. Another danger lies in the fact that edema can change its location to internal organs such as the tongue, palate, throat, larynx. Increasing in size, they prevent the penetration of air into the lungs and lead to asphyxia.

Allergic causes of hives

In most cases, urticaria appears as a result of exposure to allergens on the body. This reaction may be due to a food allergy. It is very common among young children, whose immune system is quite weak. In adults, this disease occurs as a result of malnutrition, the use of various convenience foods and fast foods. The culprits of hives on the face can be called the following products:

  • Milk, eggs;
  • Fish;
  • Smoked, salted;
  • Flavoring seasonings and additives;
  • Chocolate, coffee, cocoa;
  • Pasta;
  • Citrus fruits, strawberries, raspberries;
  • Alcoholic drinks;
  • Confectionery.

Urticaria on the face occurs due to exacerbation of hay fever. Hay fever is caused by pollen from wind pollinated plants. It all starts with the flowering of trees, already from the end of March. Weeds such as ragweed and quinoa are the last to bloom in the month of September. Skin manifestations of such an allergy occur due to untimely treatment.

It is definitely worth mentioning another cause of hives, namely solar allergies. In this case, the face is most susceptible to exposure, since you cannot hide it and you cannot sit in captivity all year round. It can be both seasonal and year-round. Sometimes, such a reaction can be considered normal, provided that it disappears within a couple of hours. If the rash does not disappear from the face, there is no doubt that it is an allergy.

Due to lack of time, we are accustomed to prescribing some medicines on our own, without consulting a doctor. If used incorrectly, the face and body can become covered with red, itchy blisters and hives. These drugs include antibiotics, hormonal drugs and contraceptives, drugs for the heart, herbal medicine. Creams and decorative cosmetics should also be chosen carefully, giving preference to hypoallergenic products. Insect bites can contribute to the manifestation of urticaria: wasps, bees, mosquitoes and others.

The appearance of urticaria against the background of pseudo-allergic reactions

This manifestation of a skin rash is less studied and less common than with allergies. It develops against the background of the presence of helminths and some other parasites in the body. People suffering from autoimmune, infectious and viral diseases are at risk. Pseudo-allergic urticaria can appear under the influence of cold on the skin. As a rule, after warming, the rash disappears within an hour.

Often, doctors have to observe urticaria that has arisen on a nervous basis. Getting into frequent stressful situations, turmoil, or simply from lack of confidence in oneself and one's abilities, the human body gives such a reaction. This is especially true for children. With strong excitement and experience, the skin on the child's face may become red spots. Therefore, it is forbidden to speak in raised tones or simply loudly in the presence of babies - stress affects the subconscious level of the psyche of the newborn.

It is worth mentioning the mechanical urticaria. With long-term squeezing of the skin, reactions may occur. Note the fact that the rash occurs not only at the site of mechanical impact, but can also spread to other parts of the body: face, limbs, abdomen. Examples of pressure include tight shoes, clothing, tight belts, and physical injury.

In infancy, too early introduction of complementary foods can provoke urticaria on the face of a baby. His body is simply not yet ready for new loads and reacts that way. Therefore, mothers need to delay this event as much as possible, giving preference to breastfeeding.

Treatment for urticaria on the face

Before you begin treatment, find out the origin of your ailment. To do this, contact an allergist or dermatologist. Even if the urticaria is not allergic in nature, doctors will establish the cause and tell you about further actions. If the provocateur is an allergy, this will be determined by skin tests and a blood test. Then you can isolate yourself from the allergen product. In this case, antiallergic antihistamines, ointments and creams are prescribed.

Recently, immunotherapy has become popular. Such treatment involves the gradual introduction of a small dose of the allergen for the production of antibodies by the immune system, and its addiction. This method is recognized as quite effective, but takes a lot of time. Therapy is carried out for 1-2 years. The inconvenience lies in the fact that injections are made only in the outpatient clinic three times a week. The patient needs to choose his own schedule for visiting the doctor.

Traditional Treatments

To relieve allergic urticaria on the face, it is necessary to take antihistamines that can get rid of the allergen from the inside, and not just relieve symptoms. This group of medicines is divided into three generations, the last of which is the most advanced. They differ from each other in the number of contraindications and adverse reactions.

The first generation antihistamines include Suprastin, Tavegil, Dimedrol, Fenkarol, Diazolin, Pipolfen. They have the following characteristics:

  • Block the production of histamine.
  • The result from the reception comes quickly, but does not linger for a long time.
  • They have a sedative effect and other reactions to the central nervous system.
  • They have a number of contraindications, such as heart disease, kidney and liver disease, glaucoma, pregnancy, viral and infectious diseases.
  • Many of them are approved for use in early childhood.
  • May cause nausea, vomiting, increased sweating, headache.

Doctors prefer second and third generation drugs. They have a minimum number of side reactions. These include the following:

Hifenadine The drug is intended to eliminate any allergic manifestations from the skin. Sometimes causes nausea and dizziness. During pregnancy, it is taken from the second trimester under medical supervision.
Astemizol Reception is allowed from the age of two. Copes with any allergic manifestations, acute and chronic form of urticaria. When used in high dosages, it affects the nervous system.
Loratadine The tool does not have a sedative effect, therefore it is allowed at any age. Eliminates the first manifestations of urticaria, dermatitis and Quincke's edema.
Hismanal The drug begins its action within half an hour after administration, the result lasts up to two days. This allows you to use it just once a day, regardless of the meal. Eliminates rashes on the face and body, itching and burning.
Zyrtec The tool of the latest generation. It is used for any allergic reactions, and for urticaria of unknown origin. An adverse reaction can occur only with an overdose of the drug.
Claritin The drug from a new generation, relieves skin manifestations of allergies, rhinitis, conjunctivitis and cough. Side effects from its use were not noticed.

To quickly eliminate hives from the face, it is recommended to use therapeutic creams and ointments. If the rash is pronounced and has acute manifestations, hormonal ointments are used. Such corticosteroids literally remove all manifestations in a matter of minutes. But, in turn, they pose a certain health hazard. Penetrating through the skin into the blood, their composition can affect the hormonal background of the patient, which will lead to more serious diseases. Appointed for a short time - from three to seven days. Among this group are the following:

  • Prednisolone;
  • Advantan;
  • Elocom;
  • Soderm;
  • Lorinden S;
  • Gistan N.

For safety, use non-hormonal ointments. As a rule, their components are only natural components that do not cause harm, with the exception of individual intolerance. Their use is not limited to a few days. You can apply for a long time several times a day. They are absorbed quickly enough into the skin of the face, so they do not leave a greasy sheen on it. I would like to note the following ointments and gels:

  • Nezulin;
  • Fenistil;
  • Zinc ointment;
  • Wundehill;
  • La Cree;
  • Psilo Balm.

If the urticaria on the face is pseudo-allergic in nature, ointments are used in combination with drugs aimed at treating the causative disease, be it gastritis, stomach ulcers, infections of various origins, and others.

Folk remedies

Among the recipes of traditional medicine, you, without any difficulty, will find remedies for removing urticaria from the face. An infusion of string and chamomile will help with this. Take these herbs in the same amount and pour boiling water over, letting it brew for one hour. After this time, strain and drink 50 grams up to several times a day. Wipe the affected skin on the face with the same infusion.

Aloe juice will eliminate redness and itching from the face. It can be made up to a week ahead and stored in the refrigerator. That is its duration. It does not hurt to prepare an ointment from rice starch and glycerin or honey and lemon juice. You need to apply a thin layer for 20 minutes. Then remove the remnants of the ointment with a napkin or towel. If your disease is at an early stage, make a compress from brewed green tea bags. This will help relieve inflammation.

It will be useful to drink daily freshly squeezed juices from products with diuretic properties, namely cucumber, celery, cabbage, watermelon, parsley, apples, beets. They will rid the body of the allergen in a short period of time. Check out the following delicious and healthy recipe:

  • 4 carrots;
  • 2 apples;
  • 2 cauliflower florets;
  • A bunch of parsley;
  • Celery stalk.

Disease prevention

In order to prevent the appearance of hives, you need to adjust your diet. To do this, switch to a hypoallergenic diet for a while. It consists in the exclusion of the following foods:

  • Mushrooms;
  • Chicken eggs;
  • Dairy products;
  • Fish;
  • Nuts;
  • Citrus;
  • Raspberry, strawberry;
  • Chocolate;
  • Sweets;
  • Coffee and cocoa;
  • Fat meat;
  • Alcoholic drinks.

During flowering periods, try to be less outdoors in dry, hot weather. Upon arrival home, immediately change into clean clothes and take a shower, wash your face thoroughly and clear your throat and nasal cavity. As little as possible, use decorative cosmetics and creams with a non-hypoallergenic base - they often cause rashes on the face. Keep your home clean and try to minimize contact with animals.
